Bill was born in the Empress hospital on October 28, 1929. He spent his formative years on a farm, and later a ranch, near Estuary, Saskatchewan. At age sixteen, after his father was seriously injured, Bill took over full responsibility of the farming and ranching. In 1951, he married Mabel Ehnisz and after the birth of their daughter, Glenda, they left the farm and moved into Leader. Together, they owned and operated a grocery store, the Clover Farm, and later the IGA. Their second daughter, Claudette, was born in Leader. Bill spent twenty years in the grocery business, and during this time he was very active in his local church and community. For twelve years, he served on the Leader Town Council as chairman of the finance committee. He also was a member of the local and regional library boards and served on the Leader Nursing Home Board. In 1980, Bill and Mabel relocated to Medicine Hat. Here, Bill joined the real estate profession and worked as a realtor for Royal LePage for several years. He became active in Hillcrest Church as a chairman of the finance committee and a faithful usher. Throughout his life, Bill was an avid sports participant and fan. He spent many years hunting, fishing, curling, golfing, and bowling. After the passing of his dear wife, Mabel, Bill moved to Chinook Village where he lived out his final years. He appreciated the warm and caring environment this facility provided. Bill’s children and grandchildren will always remember him for his unconditional love and support. His faith and his family were everything to him, and he has left behind a rich legacy that will influence generations to come. “Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15.
