1937 ~ ALVIN FRENCH ~ 2018

Alvin “Al” Reuben French of Redcliff, loving husband of Joyce French (nee Helement) for 62 years, passed away on Friday, August 31st, 2018 at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his four children, Judy (Brian) Donovan, Fay (Paul) Chapman, Lorraine Docken, and Debbie (Marshall) Astika; one daughter-in-law, Donna French; 12 grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren. Al was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, one brother, and his son, Darryl French. Al was born in Simpson, Saskatchewan and, when he was 18 joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He met his wife, Joyce in Montreal and they were married on June 16th, 1956. During his military career, he was fortunate to serve in all three elements of the Canadian Forces and as a result travelled to 56 countries. He was posted to both coasts as well as Trenton, ON, Cold Lake, AB and his final base in Suffield, AB where he retired from in 1981. Al and Joyce moved to Simpson, Saskatchewan where Al was Mayor from 1985 to 1987. He worked there for six years before the family returned to Alberta and settled in Redcliff. Al worked for another 12 years as a Commissionaire at CFB Suffield. During this time he was active with the Royal Canadian Legion serving on the Executive, a lifetime member. In 2011, he was the recipient of an Outstanding Volunteer Award and a Meritorious Service Medal for Outstanding Devotion to the Aims and Objectives of the Royal Canadian Legion. Al was a devoted family man and loved to be surrounded by family. He was well liked by all and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held at the REDCLIFF ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. The officers and members of the Redcliff Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #6, will conduct a Poppy Service for their departed comrade. A luncheon will be served afterward. BRANDT

Harland James Brandt passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at the age of 83 years, beloved husband of Doris Brandt of Medicine Hat. He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Doyle Brandt (Terryann Syverson) of Medicine Hat; three grandchildren Pam (Taso) Mikos, Jeremy (Yai) Brandt and Kim Brandt; four great grandchildren Aubrey, Xavier, Katie and Niko; his sister, Betty Boschee of Medicine Hat. He was predeceased by his parents,Walter and Irene Brandt, and one son, Monte Brandt on April 10, 2014. The funeral service will be held in the Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church (3785 13th Ave SE), on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Bolender officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. It is with sadness that the family of Denise “Charlie” Catherine Semenok announce her passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, Medicine Hat, AB., on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the age of 45 years. ELMER MUELLER

December 4, 1920 ~ August 31, 2018

Elmer Victor Mueller went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday August 31, 2018 at 97 years of age. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lily; his children Lucie (David) Oliphant, Victor (Oekie) Mueller, Karen (Mark) Horch, and Myron Mueller. He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah (Andy) Kirschenman, Andrew (Kristine) Oliphant, Hannah (Lance) Penner, Aaron (Trena) Mueller, Stephanie Mueller (Joe Szabo), Nathan (Lauren) Horch, Charis Horch, and Daniel (Michelle) Horch. He is also survived by his six great-grandchildren – Isaiah, Sierra, Elinor, Jacqueline, Gabriel, and Malcolm. Elmer entered the military service in 1943; trained as a gunner overseas and was discharged from the service in 1946. He married Lily Roth in Calgary on December 8, 1951. They spent much of their lives farming in the Horsham area. In 1977, Elmer and Lily moved to Medicine Hat where Elmer worked in maintenance at South Country Village for 8 years. Elmer was always active in the churches he attended, and served on the South Country Village board of directors and the Pinecrest Bible Camp board. He was an avid fan of both baseball and boxing, and faithfully cheered for the Toronto Blue Jays. He also enjoyed playing the game and played for the Hosham Flyers in his younger years.Dad was gentle and kind. He was a godly man who understood what life and faith meant especially in loving his wife, children and grandchildren. To see his great grandchildren brought a smile to his face. The family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to the staff at South Country Village, MHRH unit 5W and St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice. A memorial service will be held at the Wuerfel Auditorium, South Country Village, 1720 Bell Street S.W., Medicine Hat on September 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm. JoAnn Lee Olson of Medicine Hat passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the age of 65 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Heidi Strong of Williams Lake, BC; two grandchildren, Chloe Jakubec and Oren Jakubec; two sisters, Sandra Olson and Myrna (Randy) Foster; her brother, Neil Olson. She was predeceased by her parents, Eunice and Clifford Olson; her son, Wade Strong; one brother, Carl Olson. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
