1944 ~ PAUL LAWRENCE DUMAIS ~ 2017 Paul Lawrence Dumais of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Linda Dumais, passed away on Monday, August 28th, 2017 at the age of 73 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Paul E. Dumais of Laguna Beach, California and Todd (Ada) Dumais of Calgary, Alberta; his mother Jenny Dumais; four grandchildren, Nicholas Dumais, Tatiana (Blake) Klein, Natasha Dumais, Sarah Dumais; one great – grandchild, Liam Klein; one brother, Ron (Mary) Dumais; sister Michele (Dan) Dahmer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Dumais and father Larry Dumais. Paul loved the people in his life deeply. Paul’s great sense of humour affected all those he met. Paul loved his two “little” boys and shared his love of the outdoors with them. He loved being a grampa and was a proud great-grampa; each one held a special place in his heart. Our dad will be dearly missed. At Paul’s request no funeral service will be held. 1950 ~ NATALIE MACLEAN ~ 2017 Natalie Helena MacLean of Redcliff, Alberta, age 66 years, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, August 7th, 2017 with her family close by her side. Natalie leaves behind her husband of 47 years, William “Bill” Maclean of Redcliff; her son, Kevin and daughter, Shannon, both of Medicine Hat. She also leaves behind sister, Darlene Cameron of North Sydney, Nova Scotia; brother, Danny (Ann) of Ardrossan, Alberta; brother, William “Bill” (Ellen) of Redcliff; sister, Elaine Gardyne of Redcliff; brother, Michael of Redcliff; and brother, Ben (Jan) of Calgary; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Natalie was predeceased by her mother and father, Helen and Clarence Ranger of Ardrossan. Natalie was a very special lady to all who knew her. Natalie’s great love was her family and she was happiest sitting around her kitchen table with Bill, Kevin and Shannon chatting and always, lots of laughter. She had a passion for painting and ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, reading and Facebook games. She loved her Polar Bear collection. Natalie was a dog lover and her special pet, Zeva, was her pride and joy. She also enjoyed the occasional scratch ticket and a game of Bingo with her son, Kevin; sister, Elaine; brother, Michael; and sister-in-law, Ellen. Each year Natalie looked forward to her June trip to Cape Breton Island to visit with her Eastern family and Bill’s family, swim in the ocean and, of course, enjoy a few lobster. In accordance with Natalie’s wishes, there shall be no funeral service. A Wake will be held at SAAMIS CREEKSIDE CENTRE, #11 Dunmore Road SE, on Sunday, September 3rd, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. This date was selected so all family members could attend. DALE CRITCHLOW 1946 ~ 2017 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dale Critchlow, beloved husband of Betty Critchlow, announce his passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the age of 71 years. Dale was born August 24, 1946 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, a son to Walter and Winnifred Critchlow. He was raised in the small town of MacGregor where he received his schooling. As a young man, Dale moved to Medicine Hat where he began a long, successful career in the autobody industry. He mastered his craft and passed on his knowledge to others as he instructed new students in the autobody course at the Medicine Hat College for a span of ten years. Dale was also one of the owners of Hightech Paint and Collision for a number of years until he sold in 2004. At this time, he semi-retired and moved to Summerland, B.C. with Betty. In 2013, they moved back to Medicine Hat and was currently employed with Sonic Autobody. Dale was a kind and patient man who cared about the well-being of everybody. He loved to tell stories and intrigued all those who he told his stories to. Most of all, he was a dedicated family man… he looked forward to annual family camping trips and was his grandkid’s biggest fan! He loved to watch them participate in hockey, soccer, karate and dance. Dale also enjoyed curling and going for a round of golf. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty; children and grandchildren: daughter, Nicole (Trevor) Anhel – Myla; daughter, Tara (Doug Maerz) Critchlow – Cole and Taylor; daughter, Crystal Critchlow – Emma; son, Chuck Critchlow – Kylee; a brother, Ralph (Joan) Critchlow; sister-in-law, Cheryl Bitz and mother-in-law, Lydia McAndrews. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Winnifred. KATHERINE ELIZABETH COOPER February 7, 1955- Aug. 29, 2017
Kathy was born on February 7, 1955 in Medicine Hat Alberta to father Roy and mother Leona Chesney. She grew up in a loving family with her two sisters along the banks of Peigan coulee. She met her husband Allan Cooper at the Orion hall in 1972, and found the love of her life. They were married on February 2, 1974 and were blessed with three sons. Kathy has always been a lifelong advocate for children and families. Her commitment and understanding of children in need was strengthened by the loss of her son (Aaron) at seven years of age. Kathy has worked extensively with special needs children and has coordinated numerous support programs in the schools where she worked as a teacher’s assistant for many years. She also worked as a caregiver at the Alfred Egan Home in Bow Island. Kathy served as a School Trustee for the Prairie Rose School Division, a position she was very dedicated to, as it was also a way to show her unwavering devotion for children in need. Kathy was a representative and executive on many boards, Public School Board, Alberta School Board, Child/Poverty Committee and First Nations, Metis, Inuit (FNMI). Kathy also spent time volunteering in schools teaching about the Metis people and their history, using her own family history as an example. She began her work with Children’s Services as a member of the original Steering Committee, helping to redesign children services and establish the southeastern Alberta Child and Family Services Authority. Kathy served as a member on the Southeast Alberta Child and Family Services Authority from 1998 -2006, and was appointed a co-chair in May 2011. Kathy was a very talented artist and many received gifts of her art over the years but the richest gift she gave was kindness. “The highest form of wisdom is kindness” After a brief and courageous battle with cancer, Kathy passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the age of 62 years. She leaves behind her loving husband Allan Cooper, their two sons Dan (Jen) Cooper, Brett (Erin) Cooper, her six grandchildren Shelton, Paige, Katie, Brae, Oliver, and Ellie; her sisters, Carol (John) Piea, Gladys (Will) Stryker, her mother-in -law, Betty Cooper, sister-in-law Donna (Dennis) White, brothers-in- law, Tom Cooper, Terry Morris and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathy was predeceased by her son Aaron Cooper, parents Roy and Leona Chesney, father-in- law Harry Cooper, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Fay (Doug) Williams and sister-in-law Pat Morris.
The memorial service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor George Mills officiating. SCHMIERER Margaret Elizabeth Schmierer of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the age of 84 years, beloved wife of the late Alvin Schmierer. She leaves to cherish her memory one son David, seven grandchildren, Cameron, Nathanial (Shayla), Justin, A.J., Brittany (Sean), Bree-Anna and Glen (Alexi); eight great grandchildren, one brother Alfred Heschl and one sister Anna (Norman) Schlultz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Maria and Francis Heschl, her husband Alvin, one daughter Brenda Shunamon-Winter, one brother Ben Heschl and a sister, Emma Jangula. VIOLET FAIRLESS 1934 ~ 2017
Violet Florence Fairless, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Monday, August 28, 2017, at the age of 83 years while surrounded by her loving family. Violet was born in Medicine Hat. She met her husband George and was married in 1956. She worked for many years as a ladies ready wear clerk at Eatons Department Store. Violet touched many lives with her years of volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society. She loved getting together with her long time friends and neighbors of Mckenzie Cres. Violet is survived by her three children, Gayle (Perry) Gagley, Greg (Mona) Fairless and Garth (Cindy) Fairless. She also leaves four grandchildren, Jason (Kerri), Jenn, Ashley, and Johnathan. She also leaves to cherish eight great-grandchildren. Violet is also survived by her special partner, Art Grove, and his beautiful extended family. Violet was predeceased by her parents; husband, George, two sisters and a brother. Vi’s smile and laugh could light up any room, she had a heart of gold and was an incredible friend of many. She loved her second home in Yuma Arizona, in which, she spent her winters surrounded by many good friends. The celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
