1941 ~ WALLACE SCHUETZLE ~ 2017

Wallace Ronald Schuetzle, beloved husband of Sheila Schuetzle of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, February 24th, 2017 at the age of 75 years. Wallace also leaves to cherish his memory one son, Curtis Schuetzle (Sheila Goldthorpe); one daughter, Laurie Schuetzle (Chris Cook); his mother, Marie Schuetzle; one grandchild, Taren Schuetzle; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Wallace was predeceased by his father, Fred Schuetzle. Donald “Don” Manning Hart passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the age of 85 years, beloved husband of Frances Hart of Medicine Hat. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his daughters, Peggy (Larry) Schlenker and Lynn (George) Myette, his grandchildren, Brad Schlenker, Jason Van Buskirk, Jennifer (Dale) Howe, Justin and Lori Hart, and Maggie Hart; great grandchildren, Clayton, Evyn, Kenzie, Ryder and Brekkyn and numerous extended family; his daughter-in-law Liz Hart, his brothers Bob and Dave Hart; sisters-in-law, Jean (Glen) Loewn, Bonnie Schlinker and Jackie (Dan) Sodero; along with friend Lenora Hilderman and numerous extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Opal Hart, his son Don Hart Jr., his sister Reta Barnes, one grandson Boyd Schlenker and his sisters-in-law Norma and Shirley Hart, brothers-in-law Bill Barnes, Harris Pahl, Glen McKenzie, and Marvin Schlinker. Jean Isabel Houston, formerly of Shaunavon, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2017 at St. Josephs’s Home Carmel Hospice, at the age of 90 years. Jean is survived by her daughter Barbara (Tom) Monson (Sean, Kevin) of Medicine Hat and her daughter Patti (Grant) Illerbrun (Sara, Samantha and Travis) of Shaunavon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Centre Street United Church, Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. LEONARD KEAYS

July 30, 1925 ~ February 25, 2017
Leonard Leighton Keays of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Winnifred Keays, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 25th, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Leonard leaves to cherish his memory two sons, David (Marlene) of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and Donald (Tracy) of Medicine Hat; seven grandchildren, Crystal (Jamie), Danielle (Tyson), Harlen, Trent (Chantal), Chelsea (Colin), Whitney (Rob) and Leighton; eight great grandchildren, William, Matthew, Tyce, Kailee, Owen, Alexa, Olivia and Emma; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Leonard was predeceased by his wife, Winnifred in 2005; his parents, Arthur and Elsie Keays; and two sisters, Erla (Ed) Sanderson and Eileen (Harold) Urvold; and brother-in-law, Earl (Mary) Ewing; and sister-in-law, Marge (Joe) Mazzei. Leonard was born in Maple Creek in July of 1925 and was raised on the family ranch where he remained till the early 1980's. Len and Win spent their winters in Punta Gorda, Florida and summers in Cypress Hills Park until they retired to Medicine Hat in 1996. Dad had many hobbies including woodworking, pottery and Barbershop singing. He was active in many community activities and organizations and enjoyed helping others; he will be missed by friends and family. The family wishes to thank the staff at Meadowlands where Len was a resident since 2012. We would also like to extend thanks to the Doctors and staff of 5 West, 4 West and the Palliative Care Unit for the good care they gave Dad over the past 3 weeks. LUTES

WILLARD ALLEN (BILL) LUTES passed away in Okotoks, Alberta on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the age of 86 surrounded by his loving children. Bill was born in Medicine Hat on February 22, 1931 to Willard and Adelia Lutes. He received all of his schooling in Medicine Hat and went to work for his Dad in the family lumber yard at the young age of 16. Bill remained a lumber man for the rest of his life eventually passing on his knowledge and expertise of the lumber business to his 2 sons and now, also a number of his grandchildren. Bill and Evelyn Hansen of Taber met while in high school and were married June 11, 1949. They began their life together in Medicine Hat, followed by a few short years in Calgary and in 1965 they moved to Brooks and founded Lutes Building Centre, which is still family owned and operated 52 years later. Bill enjoyed playing and watching all sports but his passion was golf. He and Evelyn were fortunate to spend many, many winters first in California and then in Arizona which enabled them to golf almost year round. Bill won many Lumberman Tournaments as well as local club championships over the years. Bill was instrumental in bringing grass greens to the Brooks Golf Course. As a Senior Golfer, he qualified to play both in the Provincial and the National Senior Amateur Tournaments. Bill was good with people making great lifelong friends wherever he and Evelyn lived. Bill loved his family and took great pride in his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He was most excited when a new baby arrived on the scene. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 61 years, Evelyn, in March of 2011. Left to treasure his memory are his children: Sandra Bell of Lethbridge, Bill Lutes of High River, Janey (Byron) Smith of Brooks and Allen (Wendy) Lutes of Brooks. 11 grandchildren: Will (Keri) Lutes, Julie (Gord) McDonald, Melanie (Terry) Lutes-Vicente, John (Christie) Bell, B.J. Smith, Erin (Jamie) Langley, Tyler (Kendra) Smith, Courtney (Rob) Edmonds, Stacey (Jon) Lutes-Wong, Travis (Melissa) Lutes and Wyatt Lutes as well as 20 great grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his brother Jack (Moira) Lutes of Vancouver, 2 sisters-in-law Viola Francis and Phyllis Anderson and 1 brother-in-law George Forchuk and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 03, 2017 at 11:00 AM from St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Brooks. Reverend Ken Wells officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. PATROCH

Brenda Mary Patroch passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017, at the age of 56 years, beloved companion of Henry Helfenbein. She also leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Amie Patroch and Shyanne Leighton and their father Rick Patroch; her father Kevin McKenna; three brothers, Bernie McKenna of Prince Albert, Shawn Herzog of Canmore and Shane Herzog of Medicine Hat. She was predeceased by her mother and her beloved brother Byron McKenna and her adopted mother Maria Helfenbein.
Brenda was born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She completed her schooling there as well. She enjoyed the balance of living between town and the family farm in the Spruce Home area. Brenda cherished family and times spent with her grandparents. After her education Brenda moved to Calgary and also to various other towns within Alberta working in the financial and oil sector. She later started up her own commercial cleaning business which was her pride and joy. Her last move was to Medicine Hat, Alberta where she happily decided to lay down roots. Brenda was active and excelled in sports and won many awards in baseball and broomball. She loved the outdoors and fishing and spending time at the family cabin at Waskesiu, Saskatchewan. Together with her family, she enjoyed participating in snowmobile rallies and trail rides which usually ended sitting next to a camp fire cooking up hot dogs, having warm drinks and socializing with family and friends. Attending craft sales for Brenda was always a special get away, to socialize and share ideas and creations. Brenda’s special time of the year was Christmas. She was known for setting benchmarks in Christmas decorating. Brenda proudly decorated every room and had numerous Christmas trees to bring the Christmas spirit to everyone else. She found joy in cooking and she was a gourmet cook. Nobody ever left the table hungry when Brenda made a meal. Family was special to her. She sacrificed and gave a lot to bring family and friends happily together. She was the spark that kept on giving. Brenda will be remembered in our hearts forever and had a profound effect on anyone that she befriended. Brenda was a special person and will always be remembered for things that she did for everyone else.
