1934 ~ SENFT ~ 2016

Mrs. Mabel Senft of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Clarence Senft of fifty-two years, passed away with her children by her side on Monday, February 8th, 2016 at the age of 81 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Verla Mae Senft; her son, Ivan Roger Senft, both of Medicine Hat; two brothers, Raymond (Pearl) Croissant of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and Murray (Junette) Croissant of Melville, Saskatchewan; one sister, Selma Godlien of Kehiller, Saskatchewan; three sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mabel was predeceased by her father, Edward Croissant in 1961; her mother, Carrie Croissant in 1975; two brothers; one sister; one sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two nieces; and a nephew. Mabel was born in Meyonne, Saskatchewan but was raised at Woodrow, Saskatchewan on the family farm. In 1952 she married Clarence Senft and they farmed together at Hodgeville, Saskatchewan. Then in 1962 they moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan where they raised their two children and still continued to farm. In 1983 they retired from farming and in 1987 they moved to Medicine Hat where they continued to reside. Mabel was very active in the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Swift Current. She sang duets and loved to sing with her husband and daughter. Mabel taught regular Sunday school as well as Chinese Sunday school for the Chinese Church held in the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. She was so very proud of her Chinese Sunday School Students as one of them became a concert pianist and later played piano for the church. Mabel liked to do needlework and especially loved to sew. When she was stricken with cancer the thing that bothered her most was that she had to leave her sewing room; it was her relaxation room and where she spent many hours. Mabel was a devoted mother to her two children, Verla and Ivan and she will be greatly missed. Victoria Marlatt of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 at the age of 74 years. Victoria leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Rhonda (David) Nagel, Michele Schmidt, and Glenda (Bruce) Joyner and their families. The Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower Parish, Leader, Saskatchewan, on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Lawrence DeMong, celebrant. GARFIELD (GARRY) POTVIN

March 23, 1928 ~ January 26, 2016

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad, and granddad. Garfield (Garry) Potvin passed away while surrounded by his family at the Carmel Hospice on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the age of 87 years. Left to cherish Garfield’s memory is his wife, Violet; his three children, Ellen, Greg (Linda) and Lois (William) Gibson and five grandchildren, Jarrett, Aidan, Alycia, Robert and Jane. He will also be lovingly remembered by Violet’s children, Jeff (Tara), Winston (Michelle), Brian (Ardis) and Cheryl Braund and their children, Kaleigh, Kole, Karson, Jordan, Cody, Josh, Richard, Michael and Thomas; brother, Bill and his family; Vi’s siblings and their families as well as Jack and Donna Brooke and family. Garfield was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Sophia Potvin; his first wife, Marlene as well as his son-in-law, Ross Kidd. Garry and his brother Bill were raised on the family farm near Islay. His early education was at Trimbleville, Kitscoty and Vermilion and he went on to earn his Bachelor and Master Degrees of Education. Garry was always an educator and his teaching career took him from the classroom, to Principalships, to Superintendent of Schools. Garry enjoyed discussing and debating politics, playing cards, going out for coffee, golfing, curling, square dancing and playing pool. He was a loyal member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club. The annual Potvin reunion was the highlight of his summers. Garry was humble, kind, loving, generous and inquisitive with his friends and family and he always enjoyed visiting. He was proud of all the grandchildren and attended their graduations and sporting events. He taught honour, respect and values. In 1962, Garry married Marlene Brooke, and together they had three children, Ellen, Greg and Lois. Marlene passed away in 1990. Garry married Violet McArthur in 2001, mother of Jeff, Winston, Brian and Cheryl. Due to his ailing health, he enjoyed traveling to Victoria in the winter to escape the Alberta cold. The Celebration of Garfield’s Life will be held at Victory Lutheran Church, 2793 Southview Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Bredeson and Diaconal Minister Lila de Waal officiating. Prior to the service, Private Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. Pat Schile, beloved wife of the late Hoss Schile, passed away peacefully at her residence in Foremost on Friday, February 5, 2016, at the age of 65 years. Pat’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family: brother, George Webb of Medicine Hat; sister, Barbara (Glen) House of Brooks and Barb’s two children, Matt Reeves of Medicine Hat and Erin (Darcy) Frank and their children, Owen and Peytyn of Priddis, AB., as well as numerous other extended family and friends including her very close friend, Ginger Frankish. Pat made her home in the Foremost area in the early 70’s and her love for the community was evident as she resided there until the time of her passing. VIOLET LEENTVAAR

1937 ~ 2016
Violet Helen Leentvaar passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the age of 79 years. Violet was born on January 5, 1937 in Taber, Alberta, a daughter to Henry and Anna Hooge. She was an avid bowler for 25 years which she enjoyed. Violet was a crafty lady having crocheted doilies and stuffed toys and knitted many sweaters and afghans throughout the years. She also knew her way around the kitchen as she cooked for 16 years in various restaurants and enjoyed every minute she was there. Violet also worked 12 years for the CORE Association. She was a very social person and easily made friends wherever she went. Violet will be sadly missed by all who knew her including her best friend, Tony Leentvaar; four children and grandchildren: Janice Adams and her son Colton; Robert (Beth) Leentvaar and their children, Derek and Emily; granddaughter, Hailey Ward; Donna (Shawn) Sadler and their children, Kyle and Kaile; Dan Leentvaar; a sister, Freda Huber and a brother, Larry Hooge as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Anna Hooge; a daughter, Toni Ward; a brother, Peter Hooge; four sisters, Joanie (Ken) Miller, Anne (Bill) Dootka, Teana (Hartley) Engleson and Mary (Abe) Braun.
