1931 ~ STROH ~ 2015

Lena Victoria Stroh of Medicine Hat, quietly and peacefully left our world and went to the arms of God on Saturday, December 19th, 2015 at the age of 84 years. Lena leaves to cherish her memory her grandson, Terrence "Terry" (Nicole) Schenk; one great-granddaughter, Willow; one sister, Katherine Wagner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lena was predeceased by her first husband, David Schenk; her second husband, Sebastian Stroh; her son, Claude Schenk in 2013; two brothers, Tony Senger and Mike Senger; and two sisters, Ann (Joe) Schmaltz and Irene Wason. Lena was born on May 24th, 1931 in Mendham, Saskatchewan. She married David Schenk in 1948 and they raised their son, Claude, in Mendham. After David’s passing in 1978, Lena met Sebastian. They were married in Mendham in 1981 and later moved to Medicine Hat. Sebastian passed away in 1990. Lena loved gardening, baking and would spend hours reading her recipe books, and talking on the phone with family and friends. She enjoyed weekly shopping trips with her sister as well as spending time with her family and friends, especially her great-granddaughter, Willow. Lena was an active church member and will be lovingly remembered by all those who knew her. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Tuesday from 12:00 to 12:55 p.m. Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be said at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Monday, December 21st, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Martin Moser, celebrant. A Private Interment will take place in the Roman Catholic Section at Hillside Cemetery. 1938 ~ VARGA ~ 2015

Eileen Mae Varga of Redcliff, passed away on Friday, December 18th, 2015 at the age of 77 years. Eileen leaves to cherish her memory her son, Jerry (Cynthia) Varga of Medicine Hat; her daughter, Michele (Dave) McKim of Leduc; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Luke Varga; her mother, Madeline LaBoucane; and one sister, Verla Dortch. Eileen was a hardworking woman who loved playing bingo and volunteering there and at the Red Cross. She loved being outdoors, especially camping at Moyie Lake, BC. Her family was extremely important to her and she truly enjoyed watching her very active grandchildren at their various activities. Eileen was proud of all of her grandchildren and had a special relationship with each one. She was a special lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 1936 – 2015
Mr. Henry (Sam) Aasman, beloved husband of Mrs. Gerda Aasman, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, December 18, 2015, at the age of 79 years. Sam was born on September 4, 1936 in the Netherlands and as a teenager, he came to Canada in April of 1950 with his family, settling in the Taber area. A short time later they moved to Medicine Hat on a farm just off Holsom Road. Sam married Gerda Vonk on June 2, 1962 in Medicine Hat. They resided on an acreage near Cypress Packers for 43 years. Over the years Sam worked at various jobs but mostly worked at Goodyear for many years until he retired due to ill health. He loved his garden… especially his tomato plants and enjoyed farm animals but most of all his cat, Gia. Sam had an outgoing nature and would talk to anyone. He was upbeat and was well liked as people were drawn to his smile as he always made other people smile.  Sam was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be forever treasured in the hearts of his wife, Gerda; daughter, Chandra (Dale) Weiss and their children, Donovan, Darrick, Deanna; brothers, Bill Aasman, Robert (Nellie) Aasman; sisters, Jeanette (Luke) Brouwer, Betty (Homer) Oudman, Jean (John) Brouwer, Ellie Wenzel; sisters-in- law, Ina Aasman (Casey), Ina Aasman (John), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was predeceased by his son, Rory in 1994; his parents, four brothers and a sister. In his words, “You take care now” The Funeral Service will be held at Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church, 476 – 4th Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Helen Reid officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery.
