FRANK MILLER 1925 – 2015 Frank Joseph Miller, beloved husband of Betty Miller, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the age of 90 years following a courageous battle with cancer.

Besides Betty, his loving wife of sixty five years, Frank will be missed by their sons Bob (Brenda) Miller of Taber, Gordon (Liz) Miller of Calgary, Mel (Cheryl) Miller of Calgary, Calvin Miller of Lethbridge and daughter Alice Miller of Windsor, Ontario; grandchildren Brendan, Kendra, Jillian, Scott, Tessa and Daylan. He is also survived by his brother Leonard Miller and sisters Christina Resch, Lena Eresman, Susan (George) Costea and Violet (Edwin) Fisher; in-laws Loretta Miller, Clara Miller, Cecil Koch, Matt (Margaret) Koch, Jake Koch, Clara Krassman, Mike (Shirley) Koch, Del Plaxton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his parents Frank and Florentine (nee Ressler) Miller; brothers John (Tilley) Miller, Jack (Betty) Miller, Dave (Katie) Miller and Valentine Miller; brothers-in-law Frank Resch, Nick Eresman and Alex Krassman; sisters-in-law Lena Koch, Agnes Plaxton and parents-in-law Simon and Celestina Koch.
Frank was born March 25, 1925 in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan and grew up in a large family. He moved to Taber at a young age, working at various jobs, where he met Betty, the love of his life. In 1947, Frank and his brother Dave started a trucking business, hauling gravel for road construction. Frank and Betty were married in the summer of 1949 and Frank’s business venture took him on his own. In April 1954, they made a home in Vauxhall and in 1955, Frank and his brother Val joined forces and birthed Miller Brothers Trucking Ltd. Intrigued with the excavation business, Frank formed the company, F. Miller Excavating Ltd., later joined by his sons Bob and Gordon. In addition to growing his business from a one man operation to an excavation company with over fifty employees, he also volunteered in his community by trenching for underground sprinklers for the Legion park, the Jets and Brewers Ball Diamond and donated men and equipment for the development of the Vauxhall Golf Course. Frank was a man of integrity, honesty and generosity and ran both his business and his life with those virtues. He loved his work and passed this passion onto his family.
Frank went kicking and screaming into retirement at the age of seventy five, moving to Lethbridge with Betty in December of 2000. He enjoyed his fourteen years of retirement, getting involved in senior curling, senior bowling, playing golf at Paradise Canyon, and playing cards and visiting with his many neighbours and friends. He also enjoyed many years of traveling to Alaska, the Maritimes, Australia, New Zealand, China, Europe, Mexico and numerous trips to Minot and Branson.
Frank was a natural musician, learning by ear to masterfully play the accordion, harmonica, banjo, organ and guitar, eventually recording his own CD. When not playing music, Frank and Betty were committed baseball fans, supporting all levels and ages with their enthusiasm.

GEIGER Catherine, a lifelong resident of the Leader area passed away Wednesday, June 10th, at the Western Senior Citizens Home in Leader, Saskatchewan, at the age of 93.
She was born February 4, 1922 to Jacob and Brigetta Kambeitz Wist, pioneer settlers in the Liebenthal area. Catherine attended Frohlich School, a 2.5 mile walk from their home. Catherine married Jack Geiger on May 24, 1944 and enjoyed 61 years of married life together.
Catherine’s four most important aspects of her life were:
FAITH: It was her anchor in her life. Her life revolved around her church.
FAMILY: was what she loved, lived, and sacrificed for
FRIEND: Lifelong friends who enjoyed serious card playing, visiting, travelling together
FOOD: An excellent cook who could provide a meal for anyone, at anytime
In her own words she wrote “It was a hard life, with good times and bad, but all the wages of life were paid in full.”
Catherine is predeceased by her husband Jack Geiger, her parents Jacob and Brigetta Wist, her siblings and in-laws. Leon (Maggie) Wist, Agatha (Mike Thares), Joseph (Anna) Wist, Dan (Angela) Wist, Mary Wist, Roy (Lena)Wist, Paul Wist, Ben Wickenheiser, Adam Geiger, George Wist, Florian Rollheiser, her daughter Angela Farrer, son-in-law Gerald Churchill, and grandson Mario Pisoni.
Catherine leaves to mourn her passing her children Antoinette Churchill, Jim (Doreen) Geiger, Harvey (Anne) Geiger, Jere (RoseMarie Sackela) Geiger, Tim (Carmen Gill) Geiger, Terry Farrer, her sisters Marge Wickenheiser, Rose Geiger, Lucy Rollheiser, and sisters-in-law Tillie Wist, Mary Geiger. Catherine is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Mom and Dad lived and farmed in the Liebenthal area from 1945 until 1978 at which time they moved to Leader. Here they became very active members of their church and Friendship Centre. They had a wonderful retirement with new friends and acquaintances with many old friends not very far away.
After Dad’s passing in 2005, Mom slowly slipped into dementia. She moved into St. Joseph’s Home in Medicine Hat for about a year then transferred to Western Senior Citizens Home in Leader for 8 years until her passing.
Catherine’s Funeral Service will be held at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Leader, SK on June 12, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Nestor Gregoire and Deacon Bob Williston officiating.

Gordon Kenneth Unrau, beloved husband of Diana of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his wife, dear friends, Darlene and Karen at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the age of 78 years. Gordon was born March 12, 1937 at Herbert, Saskatchewan, son of Aganetta and Cornelius Unrau. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Diana; sister, Leona Black; nephew, Donald (Gaylene) and niece, Karen (Mark). Gordon was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Eldon and Norman. We would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s for all the care they had given him. HAROLD "FRED" WITTIG July 17th, 1934 ~ June 7th, 2015
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred Wittig, beloved husband of Gayle Wittig, in Palliative Care at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 7th, 2015 at the age of 80 years. His memory will be forever cherished by his children, Karen (Rod) Ristau, Jenelle (Joe) Jangula, and Owen (Janet) Wittig; four grandchildren, Cole (Candice) Ristau, Paige Ristau, Lane Ristau, and Chelsea Wittig; one precious great-granddaughter, Casey Ristau; three step-grandchildren, Chris Jangula, Lee Jangula, and Crystal (Earl) Fraser; two step great-grandchildren, Parker and Lindin; one sister, Gladys Dieterle; three sisters-in-law, Sharon Yeast, Judith Sept, and Joyce Wittig; one brother-in-law, Bill Yeast; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents, George and Esther Wittig; his in-laws, John and Margaret Sept; his sister, Marlene Haas; his brother, Bob Wittig; and two brothers-in-law, Clarence Dieterle and Ron Haas. Fred was born and raised in the Burstall District where he met and married his wife of 55 years, Gayle, in the winter of 1959. They started their first year of marriage on the Conrad Schultz farm before moving to the A.K. Walker or Jacobsen Ranch in the fall of 1960. Fred and all his family took part in his operation raising Simmental and Hereford cattle and quarter horses as well as grain farming. Fred's love was the ranch. He enjoyed 48 years of ranching and then Gayle and Fred retired to Medicine Hat enjoying retired life with a coulee view. Fred continued to drive back and forth to Burstall to help with the farming. During their time in Burstall and Medicine Hat, they supported their grandchildren by attending sporting events, concerts and graduations. Each one had a special place in his heart and he was so proud of their individual accomplishments. Fred will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. A special thank you is extended to the Palliative Care nursing staff for their compassion and support. Mr. Philip Mardian, previously of Burstall, SK., passed away peacefully at the Riverview Care Centre in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the age of 91 years.
