BAYER

Wayne K. Bayer – A.K.A. “Weiner” or “Ribsy” to his friends, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the age of 59 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife for 31 years, Kathy; their two children Ashley and Kevin (Jensina Hehn). He is also survived by his mother Helen Bayer and her children, Lorraine (Bruce) Glasgo, Lyle (Lise) Bayer and a sister-in-law Anne (Don) Franks; six nephews and many aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father Fred; his in-laws Ev and Jim Chipperfield and he will be joining his lifelong friends, Doug Beierbach and John Tevel. Wayne was born on June 17, 1955 in Medicine Hat, residing in Seven Persons until the age of 6 when he moved with his family to Medicine Hat. He lived in Medicine Hat all his life and made many long lasting friendships here. Wayne was a social person who made friends easily and loved talking to and being with people. He was a diehard Edmonton Eskimo fan, attending many of their games and hosted football parties for all his friends. Even though his disease took its toll, he remained a positive person battling against it everyday for many years. He was always appreciative and caring and the disease was not able to take away the spirit that enabled him to fight until the end. Wayne never complained about being sick or about his daily pain. He knew his time was limited so he packed as much as possible into everyday. Wayne and his loving wife Kathy accomplished as many items on his bucket list as possible, Elton John in Las Vegas, Polar Bears in Churchill, Grizzly Bears in Campbell River and Salmon fishing in B.C. His travels also included an Alaskan Cruise, zip lining in Costa Rica, even touching Stingray’s in Antigua. In Mexico he caught his biggest fish, a blue Marlin weighing a 180 lbs, that really put a smile on his face. He touched many peoples lives during his travels and made lasting friendships including a second family in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Wayne and Kathy also travelled across Canada and the U.S.A. in The Bayer Bus. They made it all the way to Newfoundland the Maritimes and saw many cities and attractions along the way. The most important item on his list was preparing his family for life without him. This included ensuring the house and yard were maintenance free for Kathy, as Wayne had always been able to fix anything. Roofing in Medicine Hat was Wayne’s life, and from 1991 – 2013 he built a reputable roofing company and was often praised as being the best in town. Bayer’s Roofing became one of his greatest legacies. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend.
