George was born in Medicine Hat to Bertha and George Munro on September 14, 1934. After graduating from high school in 1952, he began work with a PFRA survey crew in Vauxhall. In 1956, George returned to Redcliff and began working for a survey company in Medicine Hat. He articled for a Commission as an Alberta Land Surveyor, which he received in 1964. As well a Saskatchewan Land Surveyor Commission was granted in 1965. Sam was recognized in 2014 by the Alberta Land Surveyors Association for 50 years as a Professional. In 1958, George married Annette Lariviere in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan and in short order started their family.
In 1973, George and long time friends Dick Davies, Jim Van Dam A.L.S and Les Mehrer A.L.S. formed George Munro and Associates Ltd., which operated from 1973 until 2000. That firm was purchased in 2000 with George lending his expertise until late 2008.
In early 2009, George figured he wasn’t ready for retirement and met with Bob Wallace A.L.S. of Global Surveys Group to start Munro Global Surveys, presently Global Raymac Surveys. George was a voice of wisdom and insight in the surveying world and would still go to work a few hours a day when possible.
George’s sense of humor, quick wit, ability to tease anyone about anything and his love for his family, friends and lifelong neighbors will be sorely missed. He was a well- respected, outstanding man and we will all sorely miss him .
