It is with profound sadness, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, we announce the passing of Tony Neigum. He passed away February 9, at the age of 77 with his loving family at his side. Tony’s passing leaves a void in the lives of many people. None more than his sons Steve (Bev) and their children (Desirae, Brandon, and Taylor), Stan (Deni) and their children (Sydney, Erica, Layton, and Carson); three brothers, Sam (Martha) Neigum, Jake (Joyce) Neigum and John (Rose) Neigum; two sisters, Annie Lemare and Julia Snell; sisters-in-law, Denise Neigum, Betty-Lou (Warren) Elofson and Patti (Alan) Martineau and brother-in-law, Mike Marshall as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Together they successfully ran a trucking company and farm until Val’s illness required him to retire and become a full time caregiver for her. It was during this time, unknowingly to him, he demonstrated what a kind, selfless, loving husband, father, grandfather, and man he truly was. After Val’s passing in 2009, his focus became his family, both immediate and extended. Tony’s immediate family focus involved attending any and every function he could for his grandchildren or helping either of his son’s with anything they needed. His extended family focus involved suppers, travelling to see family, and helping out his siblings whenever they were in need. Tony was known for his gift of gab, sense of humour, big never ending smile, and love of life. He was a great neighbour and made many friendships with people that lived on 4th Street over the years. .VOLK
Frank Anton Volk passed away peacefully in Olds, Alberta on February 7, 2015, at the age of 90 years, surrounded by his loving family. Frank was predeceased by his loving wife, Ann, in 2013, his father, Fidelis in 1974, his mother, Madeline in 1995, one son-in-law, Erroll Edwards in 2007, one brother John in 2012 and sister-in-law, Pauline Volk in 2009. Frank was born in the family home near Mendham, Saskatchewan on November 27, 1924. The oldest of five children of Fidelis and Madeline Volk, Frank learned responsibility and perseverance at an early age, qualities that would serve him well many times throughout his life. He completed grade eight in a one room country school at Neigel Plains near the family farm. Frank married the love of his life, Ann Miller, on July 5, 1950, in Medicine Hat. With two children already in tow, a small John Deer tractor and a single cow, they moved to the Cappon area south of Oyen in 1955, to begin what still remains the family farm. In the evening, the kerosene lamp would be lit over the kitchen table and time would be spent playing cards or doing puzzles. Running water and electricity were “luxuries” that the family would have to wait several more years to obtain. The little two bedroom house was already a tight squeeze when the family expanded to six children. Plans were made to move one-half mile south of the homestead. What excitement when the new Nelson home was built in 1967! Two more boys would yet arrive to round the number of children up to eight. Frank ran the Cappon snowplow for several winters. Evening was a time when neighbors would drop around for a game of cards and Ann always made sure coffee and cake would complement the visit. Sunday mornings the whole family would be rounded up to drive the 21 miles to town for Church. Frank worked tirelessly for love of his wife and family. Finally in 1994, Frank and Ann decided maybe they should slow down a bit. They retired to a condo in Medicine Hat where they continued to be active in square dancing, playing cards at the “Moose” and generally enjoying their family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was driving to one of the local fishing holes looking to catch the “big one”. Eventually, due to declining health, Frank and Ann moved together to an Assisted Living Facility in Olds in 2010. Frank was a man of integrity and faith, a rare role model that touched so many lives. Never uttering an unkind word about anyone, he would go out of his way to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He will be forever missed by his eight children, Les (Connie), Audrey Gross (Lyle) and Donna Edwards of Olds, Glen (Leslie) and Darin (Evelyn) of Calgary, Sandra Bixby of Medicine Hat, Dean (Delaine) and Darcy (Michelle) of Oyen, as well as fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Frank is also survived by his three sisters Edith (Pete) Garrecht of Medicine Hat, Ann (Ed) Tumbach of Leader, Saskatchewan and Julie (Mike) Frey of Kelowna. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Friday February 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Philip Le celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT and Nunavut #124 – 430 6th Ave. SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 2S8. You may e-mail condolences to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Frank Volk, or you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.
