.Lyle saw to it that both of his brothers were remembered last week as family and friends gathered in Cook’s Chapel to honour the lives of Glen and Neil Dragland. The service was filled with tributes both spoken and visual as memories from the boys’ childhood and their later years were shared by family friends, Fred Voeller and Bev Berg. Pastor Smith led the service which included some recorded selections that Neil would have especially appreciated. The Chapel Service was followed by a brief farewell where Neil was placed with Glen in the Dragland family plot at Hillside Cemetery. The music and fellowship followed thereafter… just the way Neil and Glen would have wanted!
Their lives honoured,
A memorable good-bye,
Brothers reunited,
Stars filling the night’s sky.
Their Lives Lived…
Their Lives Cherished…
Their Lives Honoured.

.RIEGER
It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Mrs. Edna Alice Rieger (Enslen), beloved wife of the late Elvin Rieger, announce her peaceful passing, surrounded by her loving family, at the Medicine Hat Hospital on Saturday, February, 7, 2015, at the age of 85 years. Mom was born on the family farm and was the youngest of ten children. At six weeks of age, her mother passed away leaving her to be raised by her father and older siblings. In 1942 her family moved to Medicine Hat where she met Elvin, the love of her life, at a church function. Their first date was going for ice cream. This became a weekly date causing Dad’s family to wonder why he was never hungry Saturday evening. On February 15, 1950 Mom and Dad were married. It was a love and devotion that would last a lifetime. Blessed with six children, they left Medicine Hat for a life on the farm. During this time our parents taught us the value of hard work. Mom worked tirelessly not only to make sure the household and farm were always running smoothly but more importantly to foster a loving and supportive environment for her children. To Mom and Dad nothing was more important than their faith and family and the special time we spent together. The adventures we shared on the farm are a time we all recall with fondness. From everyday life to family vacations to Manitoba, Banff, Elkwater and Montana, these times are still talked about with fondness and nostalgia. In 1974 the family began a new chapter in their lives returning to Medicine Hat where Mom began work at the Travelodge Motel. Even as the children grew older we remained a closely knit family. Mom could always be counted on to bring everyone together with a meal of dumplings or strudla. Eventually Mom moved on to work as a cleaner for the Medicine Hat School Division where she worked until retirement in 1992. Whether it was having coffee with friends or the many days they spent together fishing at the local lakes, Mom and Dad thoroughly enjoyed their retirement. Their greatest pleasure was in visiting with their children and grandchildren. As a gramma, Mom took a special interest in each of her grandchildren and their activities. Each of her grandchildren felt a special bond with Gramma, they always knew her love and support was unwavering. In 1999 Mom lost her husband and best friend. While his passing weighed heavy on her heart Mom remained a source of strength and ensured her family remained as close as ever. Over the next few years Mom enjoyed seeing new places from Alaska to Jamaica, Hawaii to Europe; she was open to any adventure. During this time her puppy Angel provided Mom with a special friendship. Mom taught by example, she lived humbly and compassionately. She valued every opportunity life had to offer, always drawing on the positives of her situation and never uttering a complaint. Her presence will always be felt and she will always be with us. As serendipity would have it, Mom will be celebrating her 65th wedding anniversary with Dad this weekend. We’re so happy they are reunited and will spend eternity together. Mom’s memory will be cherished by her children Gary (Janice) Rieger, Carol (Blair) Froese, Sharon Rieger, Keith (Kim) Rieger, Bonnie (Kevin) Erb, Stuart (Marissa) Rieger and grandchildren Stephen (Angela) Rieger, Dawn (Jamie) Wood, Trenton (Amy) Froese, Trevor (Tanya) Froese, Tennille Erb (Brad Janzer), Tyson Erb (Jana Nygaard), Cobi Rieger, Jillian Rieger, nine great grandchildren and two sisters Melba Fauser and Doris (Ben) Martin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Otillie and John Enslen; her husband, Elvin on September 9, 1999; two brothers and five sisters. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Thursday from 12:00 to 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church (3785 13th Ave SE) on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. George Brandt officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Samaritan’s Purse-Canada, 20 Hopewell Way NE, Calgary, AB, T3J 5H5 or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT and Nunavut #124 – 430 6th Ave. SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 2S8.
