It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Isabel Mary Straarup beloved wife of Ken Straarup. Isabel leaves to cherish her memory her children, Michael (Stephanie), Jason (Erin) and Tammy (Kevin). Doris Laura Hyland (nee Childs), beloved wife of late Ron Hyland, passed away October 6, 2014 at Bow Island, AB with family at her side. Left to cherish her memory, son Alan and Dianne: Colin, Kevin (Megan) – Sam and Madeleine, Kyle (Sheena) – Burke, Weston and Parke; son Derek and Ann: Randy (Jennie) – Liam, Callum, Fiona and Abiageal; son David and Linda: Tanya (Mike) Sharpe – Tyler, Matthew, Ryan and Evan; son Robin: Kayla (Josh Brown), Kamille, Kara and their mother Lorraine; daughter Judy and Vernon Knapik: Justin (Misty) – Shae; daughter Liz Worley: Lauren and Gillian. Doris was predeceased by her husband, son Colin, grandson Robert, son-in-law Cam, brothers Alan and John, and sister Betty. Mum was born April 24, 1922 at Weybridge, Surrey, England, the first child of Harry and Lily Childs. Mum took on the role of caregiver to her younger siblings after her father passed away when she was five. She entered the workforce upon completing school at age fourteen and answered the call to duty, enlisting in the WAAF of Royal Air Force in April 1941. She was discharged March 1945, attaining rank of Sergeant. Mum met the love of her life, a handsome Canadian airman, at a Forces dance in Edinburgh, Scotland. They were married December 21, 1943 at Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England. This marriage opened a new world to Mum, moving to Canada and arriving in Bow Island in May 1945. She persevered and prospered in the most important job as a stay-at-home mum, showing her children and grandchildren strength and resiliency throughout her life. Mum was an artist with needles, knitting and crocheting items that three generations will remember and cherish. Mum was an avid darts player, enjoyed bowling in later years, and thoroughly enjoyed Coronation Street and BBC shows. Mum belonged to Anglican Ladies Aid, Order of Eastern Star, and was a proud member of the Medicine Hat War Brides. Life Memberships were bestowed on Mum by the Bow Island Legion and Bow Island Ladies Auxiliary to the Legion and the Anglican Silver Cross. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Sheila McLeod officiating. A private interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Sharon Lee Kumm of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the age of 71 years, reunited with her best friend and lifelong love, Bill. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Murray (Jennifer) Kumm of Medicine Hat, Lorena (Doug) Venechuk of Spring Coulee and Don (Renae) Kumm of Sooke, B.C.; six grandchildren, Megan and Jamieson Kumm; Chelsea and Kodie Venechuk; Correy Ward and Alex Kumm; two brothers; Leroy (Heather) Oberten and Stan (Myrna) Oberten; two sisters, Kay (Tony) Wintoniak and Marg (Bill – deceased) Forrest as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her best friend, “Sammy dog”. She was predeceased by her husband Bill on August 26, 2006 and by her parents, Frank and Gladys Oberten. Sharon was born June 26, 1943 in Claresholm AB. She spent her entire childhood in the Claresholm area and graduated high school in 1961. Sharon attended Nursing School in Calgary and worked as a Registered Nursing Aide in Elnora, AB. In July 1964 she met Bill Kumm and they were married on Sept 25, 1965. Sharon stayed home and raised 3 kids until she returned to the workforce fulltime as a cook in the early 90’s. She retired from Zellers in 2009. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids, her Sammy-Dog, family and friends. She will be sadly missed by many. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. David Skidmore officiating. Norma Anne Cleland, beloved wife of the late Walter Cleland, passed away in Lethbridge on Friday, October 3, 2014 at the age of 86 years.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 139 – 2 Avenue West, Bow Island on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Sheila McLeod officiating.
