.1916 ~ BUNKOSKY ~ 2013
Violet Bunkosky of Bow Island, beloved wife of the late Edward Bunkosky, passed away on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013 at the age of 97 years. Violet leaves to cherish her memory her children, Marvin (Liz) Collinge, Tom (Wilma) Collinge, Alfred (Elle) Collinge, Brian (Bridgette) Collinge, Barry Collinge, and Sharon (Perry) Reich; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great- grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; and two step-sons, Robin (Pat) Bunkosky and Ronnie Bunkosky. Violet was predeceased by her first husband, Kelly Collinge in December 1964; her second husband, Edward Bunkosky in December 1993; her parents, Delbert and Adeline Moore; two granddaughters, Teresa and Debra; five brothers; three sisters; two half-brothers; and son-in-law, David Middleton. Violet was born on January 27th, 1916 in Maple Creek and attended Kinkorth School in the country. She married Kelly Collinge on October 3rd, 1936 in Maple Creek and raised their family on the farm until Kelly passed away. Violet then moved to Maple Creek where she remarried in 1968 to Edward Bunkosky. In 1969 Violet and Edward moved to Redcliff where Violet was a Lifetime Member of the Redcliff Angler’s Club, a 43-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch #6, and a 25+ year member of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed her yard and fishing at Golden Sheaf Park, her home away from home. Violet loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild and will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by them all. The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Tuesday, October 29th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Blaine Schaufele officiating. RoseMarie Wetsch of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Kasper Wetsch, passed away on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013 at the age of 91 years. RoseMarie leaves to cherish her memory five children, Frank (Ann), Jane (Michael) Stanko, Paulette (David) Smith, Beatrice (Ron) Weisgerber, and Bernadette (Rod) Tessem; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great- grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Sister Jane Francis Wetsch and Pearl Weiss; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Kasper; one son, Joseph in infancy; her parents, Conrad and Brigetta Weiss; one granddaughter, Loralle Stanko; five brothers; and six sisters. RoseMarie was born in a sod house on May 29th, 1922 on the farm near Krassna, Saskatchewan when there was just a church and a post office (six miles north of Fox Valley). She was baptised at the church in Krassna and was raised and educated in the area until the age of 15. She then attended St. Angela’s Academy in Prelate from 1938 to 1944. Upon fulfilling her commitment in June 1944, RoseMarie came home and on October 28th, 1944 married Kasper on his birthday. Together they farmed at Schuler on Kasper’s homestead until 1980 when they moved into Medicine Hat. Kasper continued to farm from town with their oldest grandson until 1983. RoseMarie enjoyed bowling, curling, baking and cooking. She loved cooking and sewing for her grandchildren! They were her pride and joy. RoseMarie was a member of the CWL for over 60 years and an active church goer for over 91 years. RoseMarie will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Leah Cash, beloved wife of Mr. Harold Cash of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, October 20th, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Leah also leaves to cherish her memory four children, Milton (Karen) Cash of Medicine Hat, Myron (Marilyn) Cash of Redcliff, Lorna (Claire) Schattle of Stumplake, Saskatchewan and Arlin (Connie) Cash of Seven Persons; eight grandchildren, Stephen Cash, Mason Cash, Mitchell Cash, Billie-Sue (Richard) De Bruijn, Russell (Marla) Schattle, Blaine Cash, Rachel Cash and Nolan Cash; three great grandchildren, Raef, Winston and Burke De Bruijn; two brothers, Ben (Linda) Friemark and Leonard Friemark; six sisters, Annie (Elmer) Ebel, Emma Perrin, Clara Heebner, Cora (Harvey) Knoblich, Ella Gueldner and Betty Kramer; one brother-in-law, Harvey Cash; one sister-in-law, Pearl (Clem) Prochnau; special friend, Don Andreas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Leah was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Martha Freimark; two sisters, Viola Kirschenman and Julia Serfas; three brothers-in-law, Mervyn Heebner, Herb Gueldner and Elmer Perrin; and brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Verlyn) Cash. Leah was born on April 6th, 1928 in Irvine, Alberta and was raised on the family farm south of Irvine. She was educated at Sentinel School southeast of Irvine. Leah met Harold Cash and they were married on December 25th, 1949 in Medicine Hat. They remained in Medicine Hat until 1952 when Harold was attending University in Edmonton. In 1956, they returned to Medicine Hat, where they raised their family. Leah was very hardworking and volunteered for many organizations. She loved to cook and bake and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, reading and had a close relationship with her Lord. Leah will be remembered as an extraordinary wife, mother and grandmother. Her memory will be cherished forever by all those who knew her. .The life of Ed Knodel, a well respected and dedicated businessman and family man, was recently honoured with a gathering of family and friends. There was a peaceful calm at Hillside Cemetery as Pastor Keen led in prayer at a private graveside service… a celebration later in the afternoon was held at Chinook Village where a display of personal items, including a real estate sign, reflected his life… Marlene offered warm words of an influential man that touched so many lives… there was ministry in the music of Jack Humeny as he played his guitar and softly sang beautiful songs he wrote about losing someone you love – such a fitting tribute in honouring a distinguished gentleman, Ed.

Mrs. Aiko Mori, beloved wife of the late Mr. Takao ‘John’ Mori, passed away at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice on Sunday, October 19, 2013, at the age of 88 years. Campbell, Mr. Milton Howard, passed away October 22, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer, at the age of 58 years, with his family by his side. He leaves his wife of 40 years, Wendy; his sons, Corey, Colin (Nancy); daughter Brenda (Wade); 5 grandchildren: Perry, Madison, Landen, Keenan, Olivia; 5 brothers, Lorne (Betty), Wilfred (Pearl), Gary (Ethel), Norman (Gayle), Russel (Trudy); sister, Lorraine (Larry); sister-in-law Wanda; as well as nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Clarence and Violet; and brothers Irvin and Harold.
Milton was born on August 18, 1955 in Cabri Saskatchewan and he attended school in Tompkins. After marrying Wendy in 1973, they resided on a farm near Hazlet. In 2005, they moved to Medicine Hat where Milton worked at Sand Source and continued farming until 2012. His biggest pleasures in life were family and spending time with his grandchildren. We wish to express our deepest thanks for all the support we received during his illness.

June 18, 1921 ~ October 24, 2013

Mrs. Irene Serr, beloved wife of the late Carl Serr, passed away on Thursday October 24, 2013, at the age of 92 years. Irene leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Larry Serr and Ken (Donna) Serr; grandchildren, Tamara (Jeff) Noon, and Mitchell Serr. Great-Grandma will be lovingly missed by Kai, Halle and Annie Noon; Micah, Levi, and Jirah Ferguson. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Melanie (Serr) Ferguson; sister, Margaret Duncan and her parents, Fred and Charlotte Frasch. Irene was born June 18, 1921 in Lodi, California, and moved back to Canada with her family when she was a young girl. Mom and Dad celebrated 53 years of marriage before Carl’s passing in 2000. They were great partners, and worked side by side as they built and renovated houses, raised their family, and enjoyed their grandchildren. Mom was a great cook and enjoyed preparing meals for every family member on birthdays, anniversaries and calendar holidays. Irene was a strong Christian woman and her faith was an important part of her life. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church from the 1950’s until the church closed in 2010. She served in many different positions over the years and became a Life Member of the Good Samaritan Society after volunteering in that organization for many years. Although we are saddened by the loss of our dear Mom, we know that she touched many people over her 92 years and we know that she is having a wonderful reunion in Heaven with her granddaughter, Melanie and her husband, Carl. .JULIE MCPHEE
May 10, 1912- Sept 7, 2013

Julie Horan McPhee, a longtime resident of Medicine Hat, died peacefully in Toronto aged 101. She was born in Ireland and came to Canada in 1947 to marry Neil McPhee. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1952 and Julie lived here until 1993 when she moved to Toronto to be with her daughter and granddaughter. Julie had been a nurse in London during World War II and resumed this profession at the Medicine Hat Auxiliary Hospital until she retired. Neil died in 1976 Julie is survived by her daughter Maureen, granddaughter Nora Mulvaney , and by many nieces and nephews in Ireland and in Canada. Her funeral, was held Sept. 25 in Toronto and her ashes will be taken later to her birthplace in Tralee, Ireland.

.It was a time of reflection and remembrance as family and many friends gathered to honour the life of a well loved and respected man, Bob Garyk. Bob’s life was honoured before the Mass with tributes by Colin and Mick and a special song “The Lord Is My Shepherd” sung by a close friend, Marcel while strumming his guitar… Father Long Vu led the Mass at St. Pat’s Catholic Church offering peace and comfort… Gladys, Deidra and Erlene stood strong together and his girls read scripture for their Dad… pallbearers, Rick, Mitch, Blake, Marcel, Rod and Ken had the privilege to respectfully carry Bob to his place of rest in the Redcliff Cemetery… a toy tractor like the one Bob used to operate, was blessed by Father Vu and presented to Bob’s very special grandson, Vann – a symbol of his life and legacy.
He was a man of distinction,
Second to none…
Now basking in God’s glory,
Life’s work well done!

Edna Alice Martens (nee Baerg) of Medicine Hat went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 21, 2013, at the age of 86 years, beloved wife of the late Cornelius “Corney” Martens. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Mabel (Gordon) Kish, Roger (Judy) Martens, Linda (Rob) Maveal, Walter (Chris) Martens, Debi (Glen) Stodolka and Shelley (Clair) Priebe; twenty one grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Baerg; one sister, Marjorie (Vern) Martin as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Minna and Peter Baerg; her husband, Corney in July, 1986; three sisters, Evelyn, Dorothy and Julia. Edna was born on January 4, 1927 in Mennon, Saskatchewan. She lived most of her life in the Lethbridge area where she was deeply involved at the Evangelical Free Church. The last seven years she happily resided at Chinook Village in Medicine Hat, attending Glenview Nazarene Church where she touched many lives. Thank you to the staff and nurses at Chinook Village for the exemplary care given to Edna. Bob Phillips passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the age of 58 years, beloved husband of Brenda Phillips of Medicine Hat.
