A Lethbridge man has died in a motorcycle collision on Canada Day, shortly after 10 p.m.
The fatal collision happened on Mayor Magrath Drive at the entrance to the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens parking lot on Monday night.
According to a news release from the Lethbridge Police Service, the 28-year-old motorcycle rider was travelling northbound when he collided with a vehicle.
“The motorcycle, travelling northbound on Mayor Magrath Drive South, collided with a white Honda Civic making a left turn into the parking lot.”
LPS indicates the speed limit was not properly followed in this instance.
“Investigation determined that speed was a factor in the collision.”
A passenger in the Honda Civic, a 39-year-old Lethbridge woman, was transported to the Chinook Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, police say the rider “suffered severe injuries and died on scene.”
LPS says the investigation is ongoing and the body of the motorcycle rider has been transported to the Calgary medical examiner’s office.
