Subaru is a brand that aims at families with an active lifestyle. So sponsoring naming rights at the Cor Van Raay YMCA aquatics centre was a natural fit for Subaru of Lethbridge.
Luke Davis, dealer principal of the dealership, located just off the Crowsnest Trail at the east end of the city, said this week that the pool “fits the Subaru active lifestyle.”
Subaru of Lethbridge has made a 10-year financial commitment totalling $150,000 to have the facility renamed the Subaru of Lethbridge Aquatics Centre. The sponsorship money will help support the costs of delivering YMCA programs in the city.
The centre is the largest of its kind south of Calgary, says the YMCA, and includes water slides, surf simulator, lane pool, wave pool, hot tub, steam room and lazy river.
In an interview this week, Davis says his family loves the facility.
“The opportunity came up” and Davis immediately thought it was a perfect fit for Subaru.
“They have a lot of active customers and I thought it’s just a great way to give back to the community,” said Davis.
“It’s really cool, we never had anything like that ever here before, anything to that magnitude,” added Davis.
“It’s awesome for the young and old, for the youth to go there and have a place to swim. The wave pool, the lazy river and water slides, it’s just a really neat spot,” added Davis.
“The community has supported us so well over the years,” said Davis, whose dealership will be celebrating 14 years in March.
