Martha Retreat Centre is bringing back their PAL (Peace at Lunch) and Music on the Grounds programs this year starting today.
“Every Tuesday and Wednesday from now until the end of July we offer a bagged lunch for $20 where people can pre-order their lunches and pick up a homemade lunch and enjoy it on the grounds here at Martha Retreat Centre,” said Diana Sim, Martha Retreat Centre executive director.
She said PAL provides people the opportunity to visit the centre to really pause, enjoy, reflect and breathe in the beauty of nature.
“Our second summer program is Music on the Grounds, and we have four different events this year,” said Sim.
The first one is on June 18 to celebrate Father’s Day with music by Jim Robinson and Chris Hartman.
“We’re encouraging people to bring their dads to the music on the grounds on Saturday evening and celebrating their dads with them,” said Sim.
“They were our first and only event last summer, but they had so much fun that at the end they said ‘we want to come back next year’, so then it kind of evolved into four events,” said Sim.
On September 24 the centre will welcome Craig Ginn.
“That is an event where we really want to welcome the college students and university students back to our community,” said Sim.
Sim said that since they are a charitable organization, this is one of the ways they are increasing people’s awareness of their presence in the community.
“PAL and Music on the Grounds both started due to the restrictions that COVID had for us, because we couldn’t have people in the building so we thought how do we bring people to the grounds it’s so beautiful here and increase awareness,” said Sim.
She said last year they had 160 people come for lunch and 48 of those were brand new to the centre, and this year they are looking for higher numbers.
