A 35-year-old Lethbridge woman who in January pleaded not guilty to charges of impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing death with a blood alcohol level over .08 per cent, and dangerous driving causing death, is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing later this year.
Shannon Good Striker, who is accused of striking and killing a pedestrian with her vehicle last summer, had hoped to resolve the charges without a trial, but during a hearing Jan. 25 in Lethbridge provincial court, Good Striker pleaded not guilty and elected to be tried by a Court of Queen’s Bench judge and jury, and have a preliminary hearing. The preliminary hearing, which is typically held to determine whether there is enough evidence to warrant a trial, is set for Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 and 2.
The charges stem from a collision shortly after 10 a.m. on Aug. 11, 2021 on Mayor Magrath Drive and 12 Avenue South. Police said a southbound truck struck a 54-year-old woman, who was rushed to the Chinook Regional Hospital, but later died.
