Digital Alberta’s Ember Awards is looking to highlight and celebrate the best of the best in Alberta’s Interactive and Digital Media landscape once again.
“We are looking at how we can support the sector and grow it, so we can compete with places like Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver and attract some of that talent here and really grow the community,” said Kris Hodgson-Bright, board member for Digital Alberta and chair of the Ember Awards committee.
The Ember Awards were created to celebrate the digital excellence of individuals and organizations across the province. There are 32 awards to be won across five categories: Web and Digital Marketing, Tech and Innovation, Up-and-Coming Talent, Gaming, and Individual Nominations. The deadline for entry is November 30, 2021.
“It’s been going on for last 15 years and I’ve been a board member for two years, and we came up with a really fun idea to kind of get people involved and celebrated this year,” said Hodgson-Bright.
Hodgson-Bright said that the type of content they receive varies from websites that are for different budgets, to social media campaigns, to documentaries and podcasts among many others.
“A lot of great talent that a lot of people don’t even recognize, is made right here in Alberta,” said Hodgson-Bright.
Hodgson-Bright said that judges from outside Alberta evaluate all submissions and then come up with the winners.
“And then we celebrate those with the big social media campaign in January,” said Hodgson-Bright.
He explained that the prizes consist of bragging rights and NFTs or Non-fungible tokens.
“Like for example they had a collectible Wayne Gretzky card, you could suddenly make an NFT version of that and it might be worth a whole ton of money as an NFT as well as the actual physical copy,” explained Hodgson-Bright.
Hodgson-Bright said that the reason why a lot of companies have entered in the past for the Digital Ember Awards, is to be able to state when they are putting in submissions to do major projects, that they have won different awards to help build that credibility about why they stand out in Alberta.
