Friday is Random Act of Kindness Day and the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta is encouraging everyone to get involved.
The special day, which is commemorated on the first Friday of every November, “celebrates the impact of good deeds and serves as a reminder to pay them forward,” says the foundation in a news release.
Charleen Davidson, executive of the foundation, told The Herald Monday that the organization this year will be treating all Alberta Health Services employees in southwestern Alberta with free admission for two guests to the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden’s Winter Lights Festival on Wednesday nights in December and January.
Davidson said AHS workers will have to show proof of employment to get into the festival.
“That’s just our way of saying thank you so much for all they’ve done because they have to be completely exhausted. So all that they’ve done for the last 19 months, 20 months now, they’ve also had some opposition, people protesting and we just want to show our support that the community foundation is definitely behind you. We just wanted to say thank you and we appreciate you and that all that you do,” Davidson said.
The foundation is also providing a chance for people to see how random acts can change the community. People who perform a kind act on Friday and share it with the foundation will be entered into a draw to win one of 10 $500 Kindness Grants for the Canada Revenue Agency-registered charity of their choice.
The act can be shared on social media via Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #rakdayCFLSA. People who aren’t on social media can email the foundation office at office@cflsa.ca or call 403-328-5297 to share their act.
Kindness Grant recipients and their patrons will be named on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30. More information on the Community Foundation, Random Act of Kindness Day and the Kindness Grants is available at the website, http://www.cflsa.ca
The Community Foundation was started 55 years ago connecting donors to causes that are special to them. The purpose of the foundation has been to build a stronger and more vibrant southwestern Alberta, says the Foundation. More than $1 million in grants will be awarded in 2021 with the help of donors.
