The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education is pleased with results from the 2024-2025 annual education report, which shows the division scored ‘high’ or ‘very high’ in most category ratings, and scored significantly higher than the Alberta average in 10 of 12 categories.

Last year’s graduates exceeded the provincial acceptable standard in seven of 10 diploma courses and exceeded the provincial score by more than 13 per cent in Social 30-2, 7 per cent in Physics 30 and more than 14 per cent in Math 30-2.

The percentage of students achieving acceptable standards of 82.9 per cent on their diploma exams exceeds the provincial standard set at 82 per cent.

“Our acceptable standard and standard of excellence continues to improve year upon yea,r which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of students and staff at Monsignor McCoy High School,” reads the report.

MHCBE also scored above the provincial average in three-, four- and five-year graduation rates.

The percentage of Grade 9 students reaching the acceptable standard is more than 13 per cent higher than the provincial average, and Catholic students are just shy for reaching the provincial average for standard of excellence.

“We are especially proud of our students, whose dedication, enthusiasm and daily witness to gospel values inspires us and reaffirms why we embrace this vocation,” said board chair Kathy Glasgo. “Their efforts in academics, faith formation, service projects and extracurricular activities demonstrate a deep commitment to growing as individuals who not only strive for excellence but also seek to live out Christ’s teachings in meaningful ways.”

The division did report a decline in three categories – citizenship; welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment; and access to supports and services – however it was still able to maintain marks above 80 per cent in all three categories.

“Most declines were by a very small margin, less than 1 per cent,” states the report.

Overall MHCBE has a total enrolment of 2,944 students across nine schools and currently employs 155 full-time teaching staff and 161 full-time support staff.

In Alberta the annual Education Results Report provides the public documents where schools and their divisions report on their performance, finances and progress toward goals, using data from provincial tests and surveys.

For the 2025-2026 school year the division says it will focus on improving results within “access to supports and services” as the learning services department continues to develop.
