Well-known city educator named recipient of excellence in education award

Robert Dumanowski, principal of École St. John Paul II school and longtime city councillor, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Excellence in Catholic Education Award.

The award recognizes Catholic teachers within the province who have had an impeccable impact on students and helped shape Catholic youth into outstanding citizens.

“Robert Dumanowski has exemplified unwavering dedication to faith-based learning. He is a true witness to his faith, integrating it seamlessly into both his professional and personal life,” reads a press release from the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education.

Dumanowski has been an Catholic educator for 29 years, as well as serving as the city’s longest continually serving councillor since first elected in 2001.

MHCBE says Dumanowski humbly expressed his gratitude for being nominated for the recognition and will be formally recognized at the public board meeting held by division trustees March 11.

As well, Dumanowski will be recognized at the Blueprint Annual Spring Conference hosted by the Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association.

Annually, the MHCBE is able to award one recipient with the prestigious award.
