Cal Vance is the new mayor of Shaunavon after winning the two-person race in voting on Wednesday.

He takes over as permanent replacement after the previous mayor resigned in the summer and other council members and administrators left local government as well.

Vance, recently the president of the town’s Chamber of Commerce, secured 375 votes in the general election, placing ahead of opponent Drew Grainger (309)

Six new councillors include former town mayor Sharon Dickie, who placed third among 18 candidates on the ballot.

Also elected were Pamela Lynn Bahnuick (479 votes), Darren Johnston (415), Rhonda Bellefeuille (333), Alain Tetrault (325) and Lisa Schmit (315).

The change comes after four council members resigned over the summer in the final months of the term, including interim mayor Travis Nelson.

Former mayor Kyle Bennett resigned from council on Aug. 2.
