Canada issued a snowfall warning for Medicine Hat on Monday forecasting heavy snowfall and strong northern gusting winds to begin early this morning.

The national weather forecaster says snowfall from 10 to 15 cm is expected in southeastern Alberta today, with localized amounts of up to 25 cm expected in the area over the Cypress Hills.

Precipitation will begin as rain early Tuesday morning, changing to snow quickly with temperatures expected to drop below zero with strong north winds gusting up to 80 km/h that will cause very poor visibility and blowing snow. Temperatures are expected to fall to -1C with a windchill of -9C.

Snowfall amounts of up to 15 cm are expected along portions of the Trans-Canada Highway. Accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

Conditions are expected to calm this evening and night, with clear conditions and sunshine forecasted for Wednesday.
