Three local firefighters took home third place at 2024 World Challenge Firefighter Challenge Championships held in Nashville on Oct. 26 in the male aged 40-49 relay.

Steven Seymore, Michael Arnold and Jason Labash represented the Hat by posting a relay time of 1:28:63 that included hi-rise stair climbing, hose drags and victim extraction while wearing a full ‘turnout’ of gear.

The local crew finished behind a second place team representing Miami-Dade County and the first-place crew representing Waukegan, a suburb north of Chicago.

The six-day 2024 World Challenge marks the conclusion of the Firefighter Challenge Champions Series following seven previous events, including the U.S. Nationals. If it is referred to as the ‘toughest two minutes” in sports.

“Time to reflect and then back on those stairs,” states a Facebook post by the Medicine Hat FireFit Team. “It’s time for those young guns to show if they have what it takes to compete in the Arena of the Brave.”

In September, the FireFit team sent six members to compete in the Canadian National Championships held in Kamloops.
