Local firefighters have shared a printable Halloween bundle that can be accessed online and includes colouring sheets, activities and games themed around making the day and trick-or-treating safe for children.

The free safety bundle “Be Halloween Safe” is aimed at children preschool to Grade 5 and features Sparky the Fire Dog dressed for Halloween.

The bundle includes instructions on making ‘Creepy Crawly Spooky Sparkly Slime,’ a Halloween-themed board that is similar to Snakes and Ladders, and a pumpkin stencil of Sparky wearing a pointed witch hat.

Local firefighters have also shared five safety tips for children trick-or-treating Thursday night through social media that include:

– Always look both ways before crossing the street;

– Stay visible and add reflective tape to costumes while using a flashlight;

– Remain on the sidewalk and make sure to look before crossing the street;

– Always stick together in a group if going out;

– Parents should check their children’s candy before they eat it.

“Before the fun begins, be sure to share these important tips with your community to keep everyone safe while enjoying the holiday,” states the post.

The free Halloween bundle can be accessed on the Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services facebook page or by visiting sparkyschoolhouse.org.
