asmith@medicinehatnews.com Less than a week away from the 2024 Economic Growth Forum, attendees can look forward to discussion on what’s next for the ‘forgotten corner’ of Alberta as far as the future of business. Community Futures Entre-Corp invited community leaders, business leaders, elected officials and senior administration from municipalities out for Oct. 24 and 25, said general manager Sean Blewitt, with the goal being to share all the good things going on in southeast Alberta. The third annual event also looks to highlight provincial and federal programs that may impact or have an effect on the local community economically. “For example, we’re going to be starting off with the Alberta Business Council, an economist will give us an update on just where things are at economically in Alberta, and the city is going to give an update on their energy transition and the changes that they will be making,” said Blewitt. Innovation in various sectors, from water to aerospace, are also on the table, aiming to open minds to the various possibilities that exist in the region. The conference will feature a panel from all high school divisions throughout southeast Alberta, as well as a talk on housing and attracting people to the region – and how that is a challenge currently with tight housing markets. “We’ve got a keynote speaker there at the end who’s going to kind of bring it all together, talk about the future of work,” said Blewitt. 9
