Downtown was alive with colour and music on Saturday, for the Art in Motion event.

1st Street was closed to traffic for the majority of the day, and with good cause, as the road was packed with attendees, food trucks, and local vendors.

Various organizations, from the Medicine Hat Public LIbrary offering various activities in each of the pods in Towne Square to a Fine Art Market in Ewart Duggan House organized by the Hat Art Club, populated the event.

One group that was difficult to miss as members glided up and down the street was the Gas City Roller Derby league members, in full uniform as they demonstrated some skating skills and spoke with interested attendees about the possibility of getting involved with the sport.

“We’ve always been like a smaller group, but you know, we’ve worked hard on growing. We’ve especially worked hard in the last eight or so years on developing the youth program,” said Coach Joal McNally.

He explained that they are a mixed-gender and inclusive group, and for those looking for a new activity and community, there’s not even experience on skates required.
