On Sunday, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir issued a statement to recognize Gender Equality Week.

“Gender equality week is a time to recommit ourselves to ensuring every Albertan, regardless of their gender, has the same opportunities to succeed at home, work and in their communities,” said Fir.

The province has made strides to advance gender equality, said Fir, and she expressed gratitude to “every Albertan who works tirelessly to advance an equal future for all Albertans.”

“Whether through a non-profit, a business or individual actions, I am grateful to the Albertans who have helped shape our province into a more inclusive and welcoming place,” said Fir.

Fir acknowledged that while these advancements have been made, there is still work to be done to end gender inequalities, in and out of workplaces and communities.

“Alberta’s government will continue to find ways to create a more inclusive province, and I encourage you to do the same,” said Fir. “Whether it is as simple as questioning your own biases or speaking up when you see gender inequality, we all have a role to play in ending gender discrimination in Alberta.”
