North American Helium says it has commissioned two new processing plants north of Gull Lake, Sask.

The Calgary-based exploration and production company announced Sept. 16 that the facilities are the eighth and ninth commissioned in southwest Saskatchewan since 2020.

“Four short years later, I’m proud to say we are now producing approximately 7 per cent of all helium production in North America, a significant step toward our medium-term goal of reaching 20 per cent of total supply in North America,” said North American CEO Nicholas Snyder.

A company release states the private entity has now reached total capital investment of $500 million, including at its largest operating areas at Battle Creek, southeast of the Cypress Hills.

The new complex, called Antelope Lake, is located 50 kilometres west of Swift Current.

Snyder said the company benefited from industrial development grant programs, including the Oil and Gas Processing Investment Incentive and the Saskatchewan Petroleum Innovation Incentive.

Those provincial programs were recently updated and renamed as the Critical Minerals Processing Investment Incentive and the Saskatchewan Critical Mineral Innovation Incentive.
