A local modular home manufacturer that employs more than 140 people is celebrating a milestone after producing its 13,000th manufactured home.

Moduline Medicine Hat has been in operation since 1996 when it was purchased by Champion Homes, one of the largest modular home builders in America, and specializes in building mobile homes for residential use.

Before Moduline was purchased in 1996 it was known as New Horizons.

The mobile homes produced in Medicine Hat are shipped and used across Canada, including on First Nations, and also have several commercial uses in the energy sector.

“The majority of business would be residential,” explains general manager Daryn Schlamp. “We have done work with oil rigs, like creating cab shacks, but I’d probably say 90 to 95 per cent is residential product coming out here.”

Schlamp says Moduline has found market success through an historic reputation, a quality product and customer service that backs it up.

“We do stand behind our product and we’ve always focused on quality and making adjustments when needed,” explains Schlamp. “Staying on top of new trends and what’s selling and working with interior designers.”

On average, Moduline Medicine Hat produces 450 units each year. Each home has to undergo a thorough quality control process before entering the market to make sure they are structurally sound.

Homes also undergo regular inspection by third-party building inspection companies that look at different divisions of home manufacturing including electrical and plumbing.

“Every year we submit an updated quality control checklist to ensure quality homes and that we’re meeting all the billing standards,” says Schlamp.

Moduline was originally founded in Penticton, B.C., more than 50 years ago and has manufactured more than 50,000 mobile homes company wide.
