The Band of Household Cavalry will be returning to Medicine Hat, offering a free concert for residents on Aug. 31.

The concert, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Esplanade, does not have tickets to be purchased in advance, and is first come, first seated, so those interested in viewing the historic group are encouraged to arrive early.

The Band of the Household Cavalry concert will feature 50 musicians performing on the Esplanade’s main stage. The concert will feature soloists as well as Cavalry Trumpets, film music and more.

Often seen atop their cavalry black horses on the streets of London, steeped in gold while escorting monarchs, the Band of Household Cavalry will wear the uniforms of the two Household Cavalry regiments during this concert.

This band is the largest military band in the United Kingdom and represents the most senior regiments in the British Army, with a history that dates back to 1660.

“We are once again pleased to welcome the Band of the Household Cavalry to our community. This free concert is considered a gift from the British Army to the City,” said Aaron Nelson, acting director of community development. “We are honoured to receive this gift and encourage the public to attend this beautiful, regal performance.”
