The Botanical Night Market returns this weekend, an opportunity for Medicine Hat residents to find their new favourite small business.

Karri Montean, owner of Botanicals, says the market is primarily a way for her to give back to the small business community and look back to her roots as a home-based business.

“We’ve got a really beautiful outdoor space at Botanicals here, and as a small business ourselves, we want to share that space with other small businesses and give them an opportunity to showcase what they do, what they make and what they create,” said Montean.

This is the second year of the Night Market, said Montean, something she knew she had to continue after the warm reception the city gave the inaugural event. Organization for this year has also gone well, thanks to connections from both the previous market and Botanicals’ origins as a home-based business.

“When we did it last year, it was fantastic. It was just such a magical night to see all these small shops together,” said Montean. “The community showed up in a huge way, because they always do. Medicine Hat is amazing like that.”

“It’s really just a celebration of small businesses, of supporting local work, and of summer,” said Montean.

She continued that alongside the 15 different vendors, both new and returning, showcasing their goods, the Market will have live music with Derek Hintz and Logan Straub, as well as five food trucks lined up near the location on N. Railway Street.

“It’s great exposure for the vendors, but it’s also really fantastic for the shoppers, because they might find their new favourite Medicine Hat small shop while browsing the market,” said Montean.

The market runs from at 5-10 p.m. on Aug. 10.
