The most important meal of the day
The series of Stampede Breakfasts kicked off on Saturday Morning with about 1,200 attendees enjoying flapjacks at the Homestead Market on Gershaw Drive.
“It’s been a really good year, and with perfect weather,” said market owner Kara Danroth.
The schedule of breakfasts continues Monday with the Medicine Hat College event (8 to 10 a.m.), then Tuesday at Hillcrest Church (7 to 10 a.m.) and on Wednesday at the Medicine Hat Lodge (7 to 10 a.m.). The annual Co-op Stampede Breakfast will be staged at the 13th Avenue food store on Friday.
Night shows and rodeo
Brett Michaels, the Washboard Union and the James Barker Band will perform at the grandstand, also the site of professional rodeo action on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Hatters love a parade
An abridged parade route is in the offering this year as Third Street in the city centre is closed more major infrastructure work. The 2024 honourary parade marshall will be MLA and Premier Danielle Smith.

Mavs wrap all-star weekend
The Medicine Hat Mavericks showcased their skills at the WCBL all-star game this weekend.
The Mavs sent seven all-stars to the summer spectacle at Okotoks’ Seaman Stadium on Saturday, a 13-6 East division win. Besides infielder Tyler Vanneste who couldn’t participate due to injury, the Mavs’ six all-stars (pitchers Josh Landry, Jacob Petersheim and Jack Novak), infielder Marshall Burke, catcher Nick Thibdodeau and outfielder Jordan Phillips all participated in the game.
The Mavs (26-17) lost their first game back from the all-star game, falling 6-4 to the Swift Current 47’s on Sunday. A game story on the loss can be found here.
They have an off day Monday before hosting the Regina Red Sox for a two-game set at Athletic Park on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Weather
Forest fire smoke is set for the city as the week begins — coupling with a heat warning that could peak on Wednesday before cooler weather arrives at week end.
A highs of 38C and 37C are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, though the Saturday high is forecast at 28C.
