An “exciting” summer including live music, muscle cars and midway rides is planned as the Medicine Hat Stampede & Exhibition gets set for the upcoming season.

This year’s Stampede, including the pro rodeo and summer fair, runs from July 24-27 with the parade planned for July 25.

On Monday, officials announced individual tickets for the summer Night Shows, featuring Bret Michaels, the James Barker Band and Washboard Union, will go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m.

Michaels, the frontman of rock band Poison, is set to perform July 24 with individual tickets priced at $99. The Washboard Union from Vancouver is ready to perform on July 25, with tickets priced at $69, and James Barker Band will hit the stage July 27 with tickets at $79.

“I find Medicine Hat is either classic rock or classic country,” says Stampede general manager Ron Edwards. “And that’s what we have.”

“Looking forward to Bret and the Washboard Union and, of course, James Barker band,” said Mike Doll, program director at MY96 FM. “It’s going to be three of the greatest nights of the summer.”

Some other notable summer events planned for this summer include the WPCA Chuckwagons running the half-mile for four days from June 20-23, as well as a popular outdoor car show being brought back.

Thirty-six wagon teams with more than 400 horses will be riding into Medicine Hat this June as the WPCA Chuckwagons return for their 20th year running 12 heats each night.

“They love Medicine Hat because it’s a run-up to Calgary and a lot of these drivers will be in the Calgary Stampede as well,” says Edwards. “It’s a really good place for them to come and they enjoy being here and it’s a huge impact for the city.”

Later in August the Stampede is planning to host an outdoor car show on its grounds with live music acts called “Cars and Guitars.”

The full-day car show is set to feature dozens of classic and modern rides as well as a beer garden, trade show and two live musical acts including Morgan Klaiber, lead singer of Fox and the Hounds, and a CCR tribute band.

“It’s a lot of fun,” says Edwards “The car buffs will bring in their muscle cars and their fancy show cars, they bring them in and shine them all up.”

Individual tickets for each of the Night Shows go on sale Thursday by calling 403-527-1234, or online at mhstampede.com.

Tickets for the WPCA Chuckwagons and Pro Rodeo can also be found through the above mentioned channels.

Tickets for Cars and Guitars are expected to go on sale in June.
