asmith@medicinehatnews.com Looking to help reduce fear for children who have to spend time on the pediatric floor at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, resident Kristina Hyde is seeking assistance collecting superhero-themed images to decorate one of the rooms. In collaboration with the Medicine Hat Health Foundation and Titanium Sign & Design, Hyde has previously created a pet themed room for a similar purpose. Inspired by her own two superhero-loving kids, she hopes this room will be just as well-received by the community. “A lot of rooms on the pediatric floor are just white. So I think we should get all the rooms themed,” said Hyde. “I would consider that my end goal.” “When kids go into the hospital, it’s really scary for them,” said Hyde. “So I think when they go into a room, if they see that it’s happy and uplifting. It’ll just help them feel safer.” The project just launched on Tuesday, with some interest already garnered from community members, said Hyde. The process, explained Hyde, is simple; alongside a $100 donation to the Medicine Hat Health Foundation, people are asked to submit a superhero themed image. This image could be anything from them or a family member in costume, to a beloved pet with a cape on, or even a drawing. Tax receipts are available for the donations. “By contributing to this cause, you will help create a space that brings smiles and hope to young patients. Every photo and drawing submitted will be featured on the wall, creating a gallery of heroes for the children to admire and draw strength from,” said Hyde. Those interested in “being a hero,” as Hyde put it, are encouraged to call or visit the Medicine Hat Health Foundation for further information, or visit medicinehat.crowdchange.ca/79663. 11
