The City of Lethbridge will put up $400,000 to support a bid to host the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in that city, the Lethbridge Herald reports.

The Lethbridge Curling Club is behind the move to bring the national women’s curling championship to that city, which hosted the 2022 Brier men’s championship bonspiel and the 2019 World Men’s Championship at the Enmax Centre.

Council approved using $330,000 from a reserve fund and $70,000 in the city’s major event grants on Tuesday.

According to documents, all revenue from the sales of 50/50 tickets at the Scotties would stay in Lethbridge to support the curling club’s programming.

More than 220 room nights will be guaranteed by Curling Canada for their exclusive access if Lethbridge wins the bid. The host city is expected to be announced in January of 2025.
