The Saamis Tepee is receiving several upgrades to its steel structure as well as several decorative components getting a fresh touch-up.
The city says walkways around the teepee will remain open during the work which is expected to be complete by the middle of August, roughly a month ahead of plans. However the vehicle access gate may be closed periodically during the upgrades.
The scope of the work involves repainting part of the structure to match and preserve previous colours from its last repaint in 2009 and 2010. The white main structure and two mast extension tips will undergo maintenance.
Steel components of the structure from top to bottom will also be upgraded.
The backside of the circular sign boards attached to the teepee will also receive a new coating of paint to preserve their colours, however the front faces of the boards with artwork will remain untouched and protected during upgrades.
During the construction period the teepee will not be available for the ‘Lighting for a Cause’ program.
