A unique pop-up program from the Medicine Hat Interpretive Centre takes a turn for the slightly macabre, as they invite residents to learn the finer points of skull identification.

“Not only will it help us learn how to spot and identify animal skulls while exploring, but it will also provide insight into their behaviours, habitats, diet and more. I’m really looking forward to running this program and sharing the valuable skill of skull identification with everyone,” said Rhys Mah Poy, park interpreter, in a press release.

The event will cover various terminology related to animal skulls, from horns and bones to beaks, and speak on how experts identify different types of skulls. Mini-games to test newfound knowledge will also be available.

Skull ID 101 will take place at Police Point Park on May 15, from 1-3 p.m. The event is free to attend and requires no registration.
