The union representing workers at Canada’s two major railways will announce the results of a strike vote today.

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, which includes about 300 CPKC workers at the Medicine Hat marshalling yard, has petitioned its members for a strike mandate in voting that began last month.

The results are expected at 1 p.m. local time in Ottawa when the union has scheduled a press event on Parliament Hill.

A bulletin to union members on April 24 states “very little progress” has been made in talks toward a new contract. A conciliation process was scheduled to continue this week between the union and CPKC.

The two sides are discussing three collective agreements, covering 9,300 workers at both companies, including 90 signal workers and 3,200 conductors at CPKC.

Canadian Pacific workers last took job action briefly in the spring of 2022.
