The change in name and boundaries for the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce have been made official.

The business lobby voted at its 2023 annual general meeting to include membership of the similar body in Brooks and petition the province to change applicable registration.

The “Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce” announced Thursday that the changes had been effected earlier this month and efforts are well underway to integrate the parties into the new organization.

“There have been many hours contributed to working towards bringing the region together and embracing our strengths within the southeast Alberta corner of the province,” said chamber president Steve Heid. “We are pleased with the relationships we have been able to foster in the Brooks-Newell region, and this recognition and change of name will only bolster those efforts to collaborate and represent the regional business community.’

Former Brooks chamber president Chip Cheney said his group “wanted to create a stronger business environment and support system for the Brooks-Newell region.”

The official boundaries now include the Town of Bassano, City of Brooks, Cypress County and hamlets, the Village of Duchess, City of Medicine Hat, County of Newell, Town of Redcliff and the Village of Rosemary.
