A rescheduled presentation by Alberta Federation of Labour on the future of energy sector jobs will take place in Medicine Hat on Tuesday.

The local stop on the eight-city tour of southern Alberta was originally scheduled for last month, but arrives in Medicine Hat on April 23.

Energy sector observer Markham Hislop will present on “new opportunities” in the oil patch and renewable energy sectors.

“Albertans understand that change is coming … but now it’s time for Alberta workers to have their say,'” AFL president Gil McGowan, who will also attend, said in a release.

“Our goal is to keep as many people working in our traditional industries as possible, for as long as possible, while at the same time pivoting towards new opportunities in the lower-carbon economy.”

The local event will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Fireside Room at the Medicine Hat Stampede Grounds.

An event in Brooks on Monday will be held at similar times at the JBS Canada Centre, and on Wednesday, the Galt Museum in Lethbridge will host the event. The tour coincides with the launch of a website, DiversifyAlberta.ca, which details a report by the AFL and coalition of labour unions involved in the energy sector.
