College looks to provide exposure for STEM programs

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on April 11, 2024.

Medicine Hat College is looking to give prospective students exposure to its programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The college is partnering with CF Industries to present ‘STEM for a day,’ from April 30 to May 2.

The initiative, hosted at MHC, will allow regional high school students the opportunity to explore the campus and labs and get involved in hands-on activities in the built environment engineering technology, power engineering technology, information technology and university transfer science programs.

“CF Industries is excited to partner with the college for the second year in a row in support of STEM education,” said Andréa Hamilton, human resources adviser for CF in a release. “This activity helps enhance the future workforce as we work together to create a sustainable and vibrant future for our community.”

Featured activities in STEM for a day’s past event included using architectural drafting programs, viewing organisms under a microscope, coding and flying drones and taking tours through a fully functioning steam lab.

Student recruitment and admissions co-ordinator Landon Heilman said in a release that the event last year introduced students to programs they may not have considered otherwise.

“In many cases, students have an idea of programs they can take after high school, but are unaware of programs that may align more with their interests. We look forward to helping students discover areas of study they may not have known were options for them, without this exposure.”

Individuals interested in attending STEM for a day outside a school group can register online through the college’s website.

The STEM for a Day event at Huth Medical College sounds like a fantastic opportunity for prospective students to learn about programs in science, technology, engineering and math. It’s great to see educational institutions partnering with industry leaders like CF Industries to offer hands-on experiences. This initiative gives a unique perspective on what a college can offer in STEM fields. If you are interested in attending this event or applying to a STEM-related program, this is a great opportunity to gather information and get inspired. If you need help with your application or personal statement, Edubirdie offers a personal statement writing service that will help you create a compelling statement to increase your chances of success. I used their services to write my personal statement for me which was very helpful. It is always a good idea to take advantage of such opportunities to start your journey in STEM education.
