City launching community cleanup for Earth Day

The City of Medicine Hat is encouraging residents to join a community-wide cleanup for Earth Day.

The city has put together an initiative to aid residents in celebrating Earth Day on April 22 by helping clean up their neighbourhoods. Complimentary supplies will be available at the parks main office entrance from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting April 10 until May 22.

Beginning on Earth Day, participants either individually, with family or friends are encouraged to either use their own garbage bags or pick up some complimentary supplies, including bags and gloves, for litter collection in parks, natural areas and coulees.

The city says parks staff will remove any large items left near a garbage bin and reported by phone or email.

The Litter Blitz campaign will run until May 22 to promote a healthy community.

Participants are encouraged to share their cleanup photos on social media and tag the City of Medicine Hat on socials to be entered to win a night’s stay in a comfort cabin at Gas City Campground.
