Council moves April meetings to second, fourth Mondays

@MedicineHatNews City council will not meet Monday in a rare break with the regular schedule that was approved last October. April 1 is the first Monday of the month, but also “Easter Monday,” a non-statutory holiday after the three-day weekend that begins Friday. Council’s meeting schedule for 2024 was approved at the Oct. 16, 2023 organizational meeting. It shows council meetings for the month of April would be shifted to the second and fourth Mondays, rather than the first and third Mondays, to create a better rhythm of two weeks. Typically, meetings scheduled for a holiday Monday are instead held the next business day. The News had previously reported that a new rotating list of councillors to assume the council chair was to be developed ahead of April 1. That schedule is actually due at the April 8 meeting. 7-6
