Prairie Rose Public Schools has selected its Edwin Parr nominee for the year, Eagle Butte High School’s own Brooklyn Burzminski.

Burzminski is in her first year of teaching, with her plate full of a variety of both English and science classes, including Chemistry 30. Burzminski holds a degree in pharmacology, but pursued a degree in education, sensing it would be a better fit for her career to become a teacher.

She achieved her degree at the University of Alberta, before returning to Medicine Hat.

“Everyone talks about how crazy it is your first year getting your feet under you with all the material, but I’ve had an awesome experience,” said Burzminski in a submitted write-up. “In part because I am teaching the perfect job right now, which is exactly what I could have asked for. I didn’t expect that for my first year, but all the students have been amazing, and I enjoy the work I am doing.”

Burzminski feels it is “flattering, and makes me want to do even more because I like what I am doing so much, which is potentially making a difference. I want to keep expanding and hopefully live up to the nomination.”
