Brooks RCMP seek suspects in smash-and-grab jewelry theft

Thieves made off with a large amount of jewelry from a smash-and-dash robbery in Brooks on Wednesday, RCMP in that city report.

Authorities say they were alerted to a broken-window alarm at Mareta’s Fine Jewellery near First Avenue East and Railway Avenue at 5:43 a.m. on Feb. 21.

Officers responded to discover damage, a time-delayed alarm setting and surveillance footage showing two fully-covered culprits leaving on foot.

Police believe they ran off-camera to a waiting vehicle and are asking members of the public to review any video footage they have of the area to identify suspects.

The amount of merchandise taken is still being determined.
