There are plenty of activities happening around the city this weekend to celebrate the Family Day long weekend.

On Saturday the ‘Something for Everyone Market’ is offering free admission throughout the weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cypress Centre Auditorium on the Stampede grounds.

On Monday, Police Point Park is hosting free Kiwanis Family Day between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a scavenger hunt that will teach participates about how and why animals are classified into certain families and species.

You will also have the opportunity to build a bird feeder, wren house or robin shop for $10.

Free cookies, hot chocolate and hot dogs can be roasted on the fire for $2.

Interpreters will be available throughout the park with educational materials to answer any questions.

“For us is just more more people connecting with nature and also families and spending time in nature together,” says Caelan Walton with the MH Interpretive Program.

“I think it fosters a healthier environment, where people can kind of get out. It’s good for your mental health. It’s good for your physical health.”

Also on Monday, the Big Marble Go Centre is hosting a Family Day festival with free admission to several activities between 1 and 4 p.m.

“Everybody can come in — we’ll have swimming and all of the activities on the go that the community is used to,” says Lisa Kennedy, recreation manager.

Activities include swimming, skating, floor hockey and family Nerf wars as well as yard games and the inflatable alley full of bouncy castles, slides and obstacle courses.

The YMCA is also hosting a free Family Day event on Monday from noon to 4 p.m.. that will have a nerf range, swimming, crafts, bouncy houses and the Wibit water obstacle course as well as hog dogs.

And the Root Cellar will be screening the movie ‘Trolls Band Together” on Monday starting at 4:30 p.m. with free hot dogs, popcorn and drinks.
