Free chronic disease workshops available for Albertans

By Medicine Hat News on January 31, 2024.

Albertans living with or supporting someone with chronic disease symptoms or long-term health conditions can now access a free workshop to help them take control of their health.

Alberta Health Services is providing a six-week series of virtual workshops called ‘Better Choices, Better Health.’

They are designed to help people manage day-to-day challenges and provide a better overall quality of life and provide them tools and techniques that are common to all chronic conditions.

Many of the trained volunteers who lead the workshops live with a chronic health condition so the series is designed to create an understanding and welcoming environment.

Participants will learn techniques to manage symptoms and strategies for talking with their health-care team. The workshops will also include tips for eating healthier and becoming more active.

The workshops will also provide methods for dealing with difficult emotions and provide options for making everyday tasks easier.

The free online workshop begins Jan. 30 and runs for six consecutive Tuesdays. They are available over Zoom and run from 1-3 p.m. To register call 403-529-8969.
