A truck driver has been fined after “multiple” hay bales fell off a semi on the eastbound Trans-Canada Highway near Tilley, damaging a vehicle travelling behind the load.

RCMP officers with the Brooks detachment report the incident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. Monday when equipment on the truck failed. That resulted in bales falling onto the roadway where they were struck. The vehicle was left inoperable, but no injuries were reported. Highway crews cleaned the debris.

The truck driver was issued a ticket for unspecified contravention of the Traffic Safety Act.

Hospital disturbance

Brooks mounties took a 64-year-old woman into overnight custody after they were called to the Brooks Health Centre to deal with a patient that was drunk, standing on a desk and kicking at staff.

The unnamed woman was taken into custody at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday and held “until sober.” Authorities are considering laying a charge of mischief.
