CFB Suffield support workers eye potential job action in the East

@MedicineHatNews Support workers at CFB Suffield are watching the outcome of potential job action on five military bases in Ontario and Quebec as its union pushes for a standardized national contract. The Public Services Alliance of Canada says the Union of National Defence Employees has served strike notice that could see them go off the job Monday. Staff of Non-Public Funds workers work in retail, food service, provide financial planning and community services for military members on bases in Canada, including CFB Suffield. A release states that NPF workers are among the lowest paid federal public service workers, and moving to a national pay grid will improve wages for members across the country. “Our members have made it clear they’re prepared to fight for better working conditions,” said Chris Aylward, PSAC national president, in a release following the strike vote in December. “It’s time this government comes to the table ready to bargain to avoid labour disruptions to services military families rely on from coast to coast.” About 500 workers at bases in Bagotville, Kingston, Montreal St-Jean, Ottawa, Petawawa and Valcartier could be on strike on Jan. 15. 8-7
